Q: If you do collections or have done collections, what’s your favorite neighborhood to do collections?
A: Back when I was on routes, biking around Queen Village in the spring had some very zen moments. There’d be those breezy days where pink petals are just drifting down everywhere, and you’re very aware of how ephemeral it all is. Most routes I’d have WRTI 90.1 FM on, just coasting through it. The more you can convince yourself your fast-paced job is actually a meditation retreat, the better.

Q: What time does your alarm go off during the week?
A: Whenever Tahini decides. She’s a big, beautiful, very fluffy Siberian cat who wakes me up by nibbling my ear with surprising precision. This calculated act feels less like affection and more like a biological alarm clock I have no control over. Snooze is not an option. Resistance is futile.

Q: What’s your favorite snack when you’re on the road?
A: Black coffee, always. Preferably from one of our partner shops so I can stop in and say hi. Food can be risky. You don’t want to be at a red light mid-sandwich having an existential crisis.

Q: Where’s a place you would like to visit?
A: I’d like to shrink down and hang out with the worms in our vermicompost setup. They have to be living in some kind of utopia. Or maybe it’s more like Dune and I become a compost version of Paul Atreides, riding massive compost worms through endless layers of perfectly broken-down organic matter. Either way, I’d stay for a while.

Q: What’s your favorite site task at work?
A: I like the problem-solving side of things. Sometimes it feels less like admin work and more like being a very low-stakes private detective (black-and-white noir style for no real reason) — going through photos, notes, emails, past pickups, trying to piece together the full story of what’s going on and how we can make someone’s service better. It’s satisfying when it finally clicks and you can fix something and make someone’s day a little easier.
